Preamble
We are a party that believes, in spite of the diversity of tongue, tribe, clan and creed, in the equality and prosperity of all Nigerians. Yes, it’s possible to build a prosperous nation for all Nigerians, hence the ideology of Liberation Movement is to seek economic freedom, social freedom and political freedom for all citizens and residents in Nigeria. These three, are inseparable and bound by the virtue equality. A prosperous society is a fair society that provides equal opportunity, and the liberty for people to engage in political, economic and social activities of their choice without infringing on the rights of others.
Liberation Movement seeks to replace the griefs and pains of Nigerians with the refreshing experience of liberty and celebration of joy by entrenching the virtue of equality and social justice in Nigeria which is the fulcrum of sustainable prosperity for individuals and collectively as a nation. We believe that prosperity in Nigeria can be attained and sustained through responsive leadership and good governance. Responsive leadership espouses moral values or virtues with the prime objectives of securing protection for human lives and properties in every town and city in Nigeria. That, responsive leadership birth leaders with foresight who seek the welfare and to improve living standard of people in any society. Governance is how the people in a society or a country have agreed to lead themselves. Thus, governance is the means of managing diversity in a multicultural society like Nigeria by promoting inclusive governance, gender parity and recognizing the interest of all ethnic and religious groups.
We believe that democracy remains the best form of government for our nation. However, democracy is sustainable when there is clear separation of powers among the organs of government under true federalism and the supremacy of rule of law that preserves the rights of every citizen. Again, the virtue of equality is the foundation for democracy – one man, one vote and both leaders and the led are equal before the law.
Value System
To reconstruct the foundation of Nigeria to become an equitable and a fair society that promotes equal civil rights, equal economic rights, equal political rights and the pursuit of happiness for all Nigerians; the people and government of Nigeria must espouse the right values or virtues that promote and sustain prosperity. The value system in Nigeria should promote the virtues of equality, integrity, meritocracy, diligence, incorruptibility, abidance, and excellence.
We believe that by shaping the values of all Nigerians to be moral citizens and responsive leaders, we can build a secured nation for all Nigerians to experience total prosperity – high economic freedom, high social freedom and high human development index.
Shaping the values of Nigerians shall be achieved by promoting, entrenching and enforcing the virtues of equality, integrity, meritocracy, diligence, incorruptibility, excellence and abidance through the social systems: the family system, the learning system, the traditional institution system, the religion institution system, the public service system, the private business system, the lifestyle system and etc.
Rule of Law
To provide control and balance in Nigeria, we believe that the rule of law must be supreme. The rule of law is predicated on the virtue of equality, that all Nigerians are equal before the law. We believe the rule of law shall be entrenched in Nigeria through:
a. The Constitution – the people of Nigeria must create their own constitution, which means that the Nigerian government is created by and operates with the consent of the governed. Liberation Movement believes that people are the government and the ultimate power to govern our society rest with the people. Thus, the people are the masters of government and the ultimate owners of the resources in Nigeria are the people. It is expected that government should remain a faithful steward by enacting the right policies and laws that promote equal opportunities for all to prosper. As a steward, government is also saddled with the responsibility to effectively manage the resources of the nation with the ultimate welfare of every citizen as priority. The business of government must remain enacting sound policies and building strong institutions to promote sound values that underscore the propensity for prosperity in any society.
b. Separation of powers – there must be clear separation of powers between the arms of government: the executive arm, the legislative arm and the judiciary. The independence of the judiciary shall be sacrosanct.
c. Electoral process – the integrity of the ballot box shall be sacrosanct and the Electoral Commission must be independent. All Nigerians have equal political rights and should exercise their rights without fear or favor.
d. Public Institutions – to build strong institutions, politics should be separated from governance. Public institutions should be manned and managed by non-partisan professionals employed in public service.
Learning and Innovation
Learning is the foundation of productivity, and innovation is the evidence of progress in a nation. No nation prospers without a producing economy. We are a party that believe every Nigerian has something to contribute to the productivity and progress of our nation if the learning system is designed to identify and maximize the gifts and talents of our people. We shall be repositioning the following systems to promotes productivity and innovation in Nigeria.
a. School System – we shall align the educational curriculum with industrial and infrastructural needs of our nation. Potential is unleased and maximized when people’s gifts or talents are matched with relevant knowledge. The school system shall be the avenue for identifying and honing the gifts and skills of Nigerians.
b. Lifelong learning – we believe knowledge transcends the formal school system. We shall build a learning society by positioning both formal and informal learning centers – schools, vocational centers, skill acquisition centers, workplace, clubs and associations – where our people acquire marketable skills useful for our homes and industries.
c. Science & Technology – we shall deliberately hunt and encourage scientific innovations and technological exploration by creating incubating centers in all local government areas in Nigeria.
d. Sports & Entertainment – sport is big business. We shall position sports and entertainment as creative industries and not recreational activities to attract investments. We shall craft policies to encourage private individuals and corporate organizations to invest in sports and entertainment.
Fair Tax System
Liberation Movement considers the current system of taxation in Nigeria as fundraising mechanism and not a fiscal tool that spur economic development that should bring about industrialization and infrastructural development. Taxation remains the sustainable source of revenue to government, but paying taxes ought not to be a burden. We believe a fair tax system should first and foremost create the environment for individuals and business to thrive, then taxes are paid in return to government. A fair tax system promotes:
a. Simplicity –the design and policy mix should be focused on simplifying the tax rules by ensuring clarity or unambiguity. Simplicity also connotes responsive to change. A tax system that is responsive to changes or economic realities drive productivity, economic development and prosperity.
b. Efficiency – tax policy mix and design should be conceived in a manner that ensures one tax per tax base, thereby eliminating multiplicity of taxes and double taxation. We shall promote only; taxes with broad tax base with high tax yield. An efficient tax system is designed to reduce administrative cost of tax collection and tax burden on tax payers in both the formal and informal sectors.
c. Equity – tax design and policy mix should promote fairness and transparency to all stakeholders. All tax payers must pay their fair tax based on their level of income, and government must be accountable and transparent in the use of revenue from taxation.
d. Reduced Tax Types & Tax Rates – to ensure compliance and reduce tax burden on businesses and individuals, we shall promote fewer number of taxes or tax types collectible by the three tiers of government, and ensure that tax rates are moderate for all the tax types.
e. Healthcare & Homeownership – tax design should not only focus on the immediate revenue accruable to government, but also to provide funds to cater for the healthcare of citizens and encourage people to invest in home acquisition schemes.
Economic Freedom
Liberation Movement vision is to promote equality and prosperity for all in Nigeria. As a party, we shall promote free and efficient markets with a view to ensuring high standard of living for all citizens. We believe every Nigerian should have the freedom of choice to undertake any trade with relative ease to access financial capital, property rights, patent rights, etc. To promote economic freedom in Nigeria, we shall focus on the following as priorities.
a. Interest rate – access to financial capital is fundamental to the advancement of prosperity, therefore, the cost of obtaining financial credit must be deliberately kept low. To ensure that the real sector or the manufacturing sector is revamped and persistently vibrant, interest rate must be at single digit.
b.Inflation rate – price stability is a pivotal factor that promotes economic freedom and prosperity. We shall promote policies that ensure interest and exchange rates are effectively managed. Also, ensure that the prices of public goods or commodities with multiplier effect on general prices of goods and services are managed through taxation.
c. Exchange rate – maintaining sound money or currency is a key factor to achieving economic freedom and prosperity. Policies that promote transformation of resources and domestic production shall be encouraged. We shall also discourage the pricing of local assets in foreign currency and currency substitution.
d. Unemployment rate – economic freedom and prosperity is attainable if people are gainfully employed in their choice of trade, vocation or profession. However, we do not believe it is the business of government to employ people in the sense of job creation. Government should employ only the right size and quality people to deliver public service. We believe private businesses and non-governmental organizations are the real employers of labour. As a party, we shall ensure that the goal of every fiscal and monetary policy should be tailored to attain full employment in Nigeria.
Industrialization and Infrastructural Development
We believe strong institutions and skills create industries and infrastructure in a nation. However, institutions and skills depend on the value system of a nation. Liberation Movement shall promote enduring values – equality, integrity, meritocracy, incorruptibility, diligence, excellence and abidance – which shall attract the right people and resources to build our industries and infrastructure: energy and power, manufacturing industry, transportation system, tourism industry, sports facilities, healthcare system, maritime industry, oil and gas industry, trade and market efficiency, etc. We shall align the learning system and financial system to provide the right knowledge and skills, and financial support required in various industries.
Agriculture and Natural Resources
Liberation Movement believes that land available for agriculture and the repository of natural resources belong to the people of Nigeria. The role of government is to protect the right of individuals of ownership of the land and manage same with natural resource for the common good of all. As a party, we shall preserve the rights of all farmers, ranchers, foresters, fishermen, miners and oil and gas explorers. The people of Nigeria shall have the right and decide the proportion of their rights they cede to government. However, we shall ensure food sufficiency at all times and optimize the extraction and transformation of mineral resources. As a party, we shall promote property rights and the ease of transferring title to properties to facilitate the creation and multiplicity of wealth.
Environment, Crime and Security
Leadership happens within the context of an environment or social system where leaders and followers interact. Therefore, government exist first and foremost to protect lives and properties of citizens. As a party, we believe strongly in providing a secure environment free from crime and guaranty the security of everyone residing in Nigeria. Liberation Movement shall adopt systems thinking methodology to provide lasting solutions to the management of climate change, natural disaster and prevention of communal clashes, youth restiveness, insurgency and terrorism. The use of technology for prompt update of birth and death records, population growth, town planning and adequate security manpower and funding shall be given due attention to provide a clean and a safe environment for all Nigerians.
Foreign Diplomacy and International Relations
The interest of Nigerians has to be projected in every foreign policy and treaty by the Nigerian Government. As a party, we shall ensure that immigration policies, economic and trade policies and peace treaties reflect the best interest of our people. We believe God did not create lesser humans; therefore, Nigerians have to be treated with respect as accorded to citizens of other countries of the world.
